ABOUT ME
The Mad Dietitian assists clients in concocting a personalized nutrition plan based on a variety of health ideologies.
For the first 20 years of my career, I worked in a variety of conventional settings, from hospitals to clinics to gyms to community centers; I also worked with healthcare providers from around the world teaching nutrition and diabetes education. Most recently, I worked with an insulin pump company where I helped people with Type 1 diabetes improve their diet and blood sugar levels.
Everything I had learned taught me a great deal about health and nutrition; however, despite educating people on the conventional Dietary Guidelines for Americans, my clients weren’t getting any healthier.
This realization hit me like a ton of bricks in 2018 when we were trying to conceive our second child. At the time, I was told by a fertility specialist that I was infertile. I didn’t understand how my body’s state of health could have changed so drastically over the last two years since my first child. So, I challenged that doctor’s diagnosis and began to implement alternative, holistic practices into my life (change of exercise, change of diet, change of mindset, and acupuncture – all things that were pretty foreign to me at the time). Sure enough, several months later, I was pregnant naturally with my second child.
This alternative side of medicine I am referring to is called Integrative and Functional Medicine (IFM). IFM treats the body as an interconnected system (NOT as individual organs, like conventional medicine) and understands that when something goes wrong, it's probably connected to a problem somewhere else in the body.
IFM listens to and reviews a person's biology and physiology (through various functional tests) to come up with a treatment. IFM doesn’t just provide a medication (aka a “Band-Aid”) for treatment, it gets down to the root cause of what is causing the issues. IFM also believes in incorporating complementary modalities, such as chiropractic services, acupuncture, and massage therapy, just to name a few.
My passion is to spread awareness about IFM and teach my clients how to live a healthy lifestyle based on their own biology and environment. I provide you with a personalized nutrition plan based on what is going on in YOUR body and help you overcome whatever issues you’ve been having.
Your body wants to heal, but you have to give it the right tools.
Thanks -- and I look forward to working with you!
